Our Cabinet Painting Process
There are a few great ways to paint kitchen cabinets, and we can help you decide the best method for your specific situation if you're unsure. Our preferred and recommended method for cabinet painting is using spray painting techniques because it provides an even coat and beautiful finish each and every time. In our experience, we consistently see spray painting kitchen cabinets to provide the nicest finish and highest quality output which every client loves to see. It makes the cabinets look brand new (even if they might be decades old).
Another common method for painting kitchen cabinets is the brush and roll method. This is less ideal because it's tougher to create a "seamless" finish, but it can still be done and create a wonderful look at the end. The benefit of brush and roll is the cost savings. However, you need to increase the timeline of the project because rolling takes more time for each individual cabinet than the standard spray method.
Should You Add a Clear Coat Finish Over The Paint To Protect The Cabinets?
In our experience, we do not recommend putting a clear coat finish over your newly painted kitchen cabinets. The reason why is because you run a risk of the chemicals from the poly and the paint interacting over time and altering the final color of the cabinets. We find that a "yellowish" tint can occasionally occur with cabinets that have been painted and then coated with a clear poly coat over top. Since no client wants their cabinets to fade or change colors, we simply recommend against clear coating.
